Taking Charge and Leading the Way with ‘Lean Manufacturing’

Pedestal Source has recently begun a new manufacturing journey called ‘Lean Manufacturing.’ Lean manufacturing is all about empowering workers to continuously learn and improve by eliminating waste, and adding real value to the things that are done on a day-to-day basis.

Lean is the new “style of good management” and according to Paul Akers, the author of 2 Second Lean Book, becoming ‘lean’ means you “soothe the frictions between labor and management by enlisting the brainpower of all employees from the top to the bottom.”

Pedestal Source has decided to take this idea of ‘Lean Manufacturing’ and implement it into the daily tasks and processes of the company. In Paul’s book he says to start your ‘lean’ journey in the bathroom and so that is where Pedestal Source CEO and founder, Mr. Greg Glebe, decided to start.

This video portrays the process of taking an ordinary to dirty bathroom and turning it into a ‘lean,’ highly clean and effective bathroom.

Cleaning up, and eliminating waste is a great place to start; however, in order for a company to truly succeed in ‘lean manufacturing’ every employee has to be on-board. Because everyone in the company needs to participate, Pedestal Source has continued the ‘lean’ journey by holding daily meetings about how to improve.

During these daily meetings, employees learn what is ‘lean manufacturing,’ why becoming ‘lean’ is effective and important, and how employees can help the company become more ‘lean.’

Eliminating wasted space, time, energy, and effort in the bathroom is a great way to start, but Pedestal Source wants to take the next steps of the journey and make their company a ‘lean manufacturing’ machine that is un-wasteful and highly effective in every aspect. Pedestal displays will not build themselves they need to be built by those who know the process. Those processes will be looked over and assessed for waste then they will be cleansed of waste in order to help create a more ‘lean’ company.

One example that Paul gives, during one of his introduction to ‘lean’ videos, is that becoming ‘lean’ is like becoming a pit crew. Instead of taking eight to ten minutes to change a tire, as many people do, the pit crew will change it in seconds. The pit crew has discovered where the waste is and they have gotten rid of it in order to be ‘lean’ or fast and efficient. You, and any company or business can do the same thing by finding the waste, getting rid of it, and becoming ‘lean.’

Think Green with Our Wood Pedestals

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner, and we thought it would be a great time to think about how you might “think green” with the help of our wood pedestals.

First of all, did you know that green plants in offices reduce stress and increase productivity? According to a study by the Department of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture at Washington State University, an “office landscape” that includes plants reduces blood pressure and increases reaction times in straightforward computer tasks. Workers were also able to concentrate more effectively on their tasks. We suggest that a simple way to implement this office landscape is to purchase some of our wood pedestals and set green plants upon them in strategic locations around your office. Not only will they brighten the space, they will also increase your employee’s well being. We also suggest adding another plant on a pedestal in your reception or waiting area, to help calm visitors in preparation for meetings or appointmen ts.

Secondly, our wood pedestals can also provide a green display solution. Unlike many expensive, hot display lights that must illuminate a large area, our internally lighted display pedestals use efficient, focused and cool lighting fixtures, meaning that they will cost less to operate and generate less heat that your air conditioning system will have to counter.

Finally, you might wonder also about the green nature of our wood pedestals themselves. Most of our wood pedestals are actually wood veneer, which means that you get the elegant look of an expensive hardwood while we use only a thin sliver of the wood itself on the outside of the pedestal. The rest of the pedestal is made from durable woods that are easily regrown. This allows our wood pedestals to be affordable (green on the wallet) as well as minimizing their impact on the environment.

So think green with us this month and check out our beautiful, stylish and practical wood pedestals.

Our Table Cubes as Your Treasure Chests

It’s more than a box. It’s a beautiful, well crafted table, shaped like a box. Even more, we’ve been thinking about our table cubes as treasure chests, and the opportunities for you to use them to hold your own treasures. For example:

When you set one of our table cubes in your office reception area, what would you want a visitor to find there? What would perfectly illustrate what your company means to them? If you arrange river boat cruises, perhaps that table cube treasure chest could hold a beautifully-restored old model boat, or a ship in a bottle? Or a model of one of your own river boats.

What if this table cube was a treasure chest for your employees? What might you put on a table cube in the employee break room? Something lighthearted, like a paper airplane, to subtly remind them of the fun side of your air transport business? Perhaps something important to the history of your company, such as your company’s first patented widget? Or perhaps put a small treasure chest on that table cube, along with scraps of paper and pens, and ask them to contribute the next big idea for the company.

Next, let’s bring that treasure chest idea home. Put one of our table cubes in your living room and invite each family member to put something on the treasure cube? Something that has meaning to them, or brings them joy, such as a vase of daffodils from the yard outside, or a special rock that you found when you took a family walk in the park last weekend. When you go on vacation, ask each family member to bring back something to place on that treasure cube, to help keep the spirit of your family’s vacation time alive in the midst of day to day life.

What other great ways might you use our table cubes? As a way to highlight and display what is meaningful for your office or your home, our table cubes truly can be treasure chests!

The All Powerful Cube

“Before time began, there was…the Cube. We know not where it comes from, only that it holds the power to create worlds and fill them with life.” Of course, when we talk about cubes at Pedestal Source we are talking about wooden cubes used for displays not the all-powerful cube from the popular Transformer’s movie. However, the transformer who said this line – Optimus Prime – might have been on to something. The pedestal cubes at Pedestal Source do not have the power to create worlds, but they do have power when it comes to creating trendy, eye catching displays.

Our pedestal cubes are used as a powerful force to create a vibe of elegance, trendiness, originality, and style in any situation they are placed in. Along with giving off vibes of class and style, the pedestal cubes are affordable, functional, and durable.

A pedestal cube can be a great way to furnish your sitting area, or waiting area, or even your living area. Instead of rounding things off with a tacky looking end table; use an economic pedestal cube that adds to the look and the functionality of the room. The cubes are just as functional as an end table, a shelf, or a desk and they look much nicer.

You can even use multiple cube pedestals to create comfortable venues. A pedestal cube is a great way to display models, small art pieces, sculptures, and plants.

Still not sure the pedestal cube is for you? Here are some pedestal cube facts that may help you to make up your mind:

  • Cube pedestals come in many different finishes
  • Cube pedestals come with or without illumination
  • Cube pedestals come in standard and or custom sizes
  • Cube pedestals can be used in almost any room for any of your showcasing needs

Again, the cube pedestal is not an All-Powerful-Cube, but is sure has an enormous variety of uses.

Light Up the Past with Illuminated Displays

In today’s fast-paced world of high-speed internet and instant gratification, some would think that museums themselves would have become a part of antiquity. However, it is exactly the opposite situation that many historical repositories find themselves experiencing. From beautiful pieces of art that are showcased on illuminated displays to living history reenactments; museums are finding new ways to attract people and become a must-see stop in many cities.

Learning about history is a necessary part of the education that most of us receive. We are taught about it in school and sometimes have a renewed interest in the subject as an adult. Whether it is mandatory learning or a much loved hobby, simply reading paragraphs in a book do not do justice to the past quite like a museum does. Gone are the musty and somewhat stuffy exhibits that show us our past without truly engaging our minds. Museums are becoming not only places to learn, but also major tourist attractions. Pedestal Source can help ensure your displays are seen in the right light that attracts the eye and keeps visitors coming back for more.

The interactive concepts that many museums have adopted provide a place where children have fun, as well as gaining knowledge. More traditional exhibitions that are unmoving and somewhat boring are being replaced by state of the art virtual displays and working exhibits that allow visitors to experience a moment in history. Whether housed in a museum or part of a personal collection, historical pieces should be displayed in a way that highlights their importance to our past. Finding ways to keep artifacts protected in an appealing way is a challenge all collectors face.

Pedestal Source can help bring together a collection with the use of pedestals and lighting. A large variety of sizes and colors are available making it easy to find the best surrounding and base for your items. Lighting options include halogen or LED overhead lighting, spotlighted pedestals and bases that utilize ambient lighting. Let us help you choose the perfect illuminated displays to showcase your unique collection for the enjoyment of your visitors whether in a museum or your home.

Think Outside the Pedestal Box!

It’s trade show time again… and your innovative products are sure to amaze, but you’re tired of the same old display boxes. Perhaps this year your theme is retro chic, cutting edge recycling, or shedding new light on the industry, and you just can’t see how the same old boxes can possibly support these stunning new product ideas.

So give us a call, and let’s brainstorm together over the phone. We can create a custom design for your affordable trade show pedestal that will both highlight your product and reinforce your cutting-edge theme. For example, we can create an art-deco themed trade show display that perfectly complements your retro chic ideas. While our website shows you a variety of relatively standard pedestal finishes, we are more than happy to match a particular color that will both catch trade show attendees’ attention and draw their eyes to your product. If your theme is cutting edge recycling, we can construct a curved, bamboo-veneer trade show display that is strong and portable, but also easily converts into a flatter package for moving and storage. If it’s a certain lighting effect that you are seeking, we have pedestal options with both spotlight and ambient lighting features, as well as pedestals which glow from within. We even have lighted rotating display options for topping our custom pedestals. Any of these lighting effects can also be customized for a particular color, or include a filter with your own design. We can also stylishly integrate your company’s logo or brand into the pedestal for a thoroughly professional look.

Since we work with pedestals every day, we have experience with thinking outside the standard trade show box. So contact us to discuss your next big trade show; together we can design a stellar custom pedestal that will truly highlight your award-winning product.

Choose Trade Show Pedestals To Make A Big Impression

Each trade show you attend costs you money. Not only do you have to prepare your presentation, but you also have to rent a space at the show and rent trade show pedestals to display your products and information. These rental fees can really add up over time. Not to mention, it’s not always easy to set up those rental pedestals. That makes your set up and take down time longer than it should be.

Why not invest in attractive trade show pedestals that will be easy for you to set up and take down? You’ll save money on your rental fees, while you use a product that looks great on the trade show floor.

During any presentation, the way you position your display is almost as important as the display itself. Our trade show pedestals take the guesswork out of what your display might look like, and give you the ability to plan an excellent presentation with each show you attend. The clean lines of our pedestals are an attractive feature that will only add to the beauty of your display.

When the trade show is over, you’ll be ready to tear down your display quickly and store it in a safe place. You won’t have to be the last one to leave the trade show floor anymore, trying to figure out how to dismantle your rental pedestals so you can return them before you owe a lot of late fees.

At Xylem Design, we specialize in making your products and informative displays look like works of art. You’ll love the museum quality and the sleek, yet simple design of our pedestals. Your business will look sharp and refined, especially compared to the rental pedestals you’ll probably see all around you.

Are you ready to transform the look your display for your next trade show? We have exactly the pedestals you’ve been looking for. Visit our e-store to see our incredible selection of trade show pedestals.
